Tom & Caroline McDonald
Tom and Caroline McDonald, married 17 years, have been the Co-Directors of the Family Life Office for the Archdiocese of Mobile for over a decade. In 2002, they received the Herbert Ratner MD Award from the Couple-to-Couple League International for their development of the Marital Sexuality and Responsible Parenthood Workshop for engaged couples. They are also certified instructors of natural family planning. They are regular “Family Matters” columnists for theNational Catholic Register. Tom teaches moral theology at McGill-Toolen Catholic High School in Mobile, and has been an adjunct instructor of philosophy at the University of Mobile, as well as theology at Our Lady of Holy Cross College in New Orleans.
Prior to their current work, they were both Catholic high school teachers in Dallas. It was in the high school classroom that they felt the call to the marriage and family life apostolate: they loved witnessing to teenagers, but realized how important it was to evangelize the family first. Both received their undergraduate degrees from Franciscan University in Steubenville, OH. Tom holds an MA in philosophy from the University of Dallas and is a PhD candidate in perpetuity. The McDonalds live in Mobile and have five children: Christopher, Peter, Emma, John Paul, and Elizabeth Ann.
The McDonalds speak together on a variety of topics covering marriage, children, and Catholic family life. Tom also speaks on politics, morality, and Catholic social teaching.
